It all started on the West End stage at The Royal Opera House (in Samson & Delilah) and at The Old Vic in Carmen Jones as a 13 year old who grew from a young actor/singer/dancer into an International DJ/Producer. He also started DJing on London pirate radio Transmission 1 while still at school.
As soon as he graduated from Southampton University he was headhunted by J Majik to become the label manager of Infrared Records, where he used his A&R skills to bring artists like DJ Marky & XRS, Sub Focus, Clipz aka Redlight on the label. He moved into production at Infrared, after learning production skills from mentors J Majik & Adam F.
Another of his mentors was Brazilian legend DJ Marky (who coined the the name Danny Wheeler); Wheeler was part of Bryan Gee’s Movement at Bar Rumba crew, where he started touring and DJing in the scene.
The time came to establish his own record label and W10 Records was born. Sophisticated and soulful, the sound of W10 records is synonymous with CEO Danny Wheeler, who is committed to pushing the boundaries of drum and bass music, and using his label to take that sound around the world.
Danny’s debut release ‘Ghost & Lost Highway’, a collaboration with Sub Focus on Infrared Records put them into the Top 5 of the UK Dance Charts and Top 20 of the Indie Charts and helped establish them in the scene.
Danny’s music has had support from BBC Radio DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac and others playing his music and the sounds of W10. He also gets supported on London’s numerous pirate radio stations and London’s Kiss FM.
Wheeler’s history as a promoter goes back to when he was the head of promotions for award-winning promoters ‘Movement London’ at Bar Rumba, he went on to promote his own nights; first ‘Spit Kingdom’ at Herbal with Killa Kela, Mixologists and Beni from Jack Beats. Later he went on to promote his own hugely successful W10 parties at prestigious London venues such as Herbal, Bar Rumba and many other venues.
At W10 parties Danny Wheeler plays alongside a plethora of guests such as: Bryan Gee, Sub Focus, DJ Hype, DJ Krust and DJ Die, J Majik, Bugz In The Attic, IG Culture, Jack Beats, Killa Kela, Brookes Bros, MC Moose, MC Det and MC Rage (from Chase n Status) are just some of the artists who bring their positive vibes to the W10 nights.
In the UK he DJs at venues including Fabric club; where he performs for Fabric Live and LTJ Bukem’s Good Lookin’ nights, and has played for Adam F’s Breakbeat Kaos and True Playaz nights. He was previously sponsored by clothing brands Addict & Carhartt and Nike.
Danny’s album ‘The Brazil Project’ is a remix album on famed Brazilian Jazz label Far Out Recordings, a collection of remixes produced by Danny combining classical Brazilian Jazz, soul and funk with drum and bass, hip hop and dubstep and includes remixes of Herbie Hancock, Incognito, Azyumuth.
Danny is also in the Guinness Book of Records as one of the DJs who broke the record for the most DJs to consecutively mix one record, live on BBC Radio 1 Extra.
His debut album ‘Universal Language’, features collaborations with Taku Takahashi (a superstar J-pop producer) who he hooked up with while living in Japan. It also features the US house diva Kathy Brown. He also released a soulful house album called ‘Cultura Futura’. Last year he released his third artist album entitled ‘Magnetise.
With a host of new project in 2017 and having just signed a deal with Warner Publishing for his new album, as part of his project ‘Hidden Room’, a collaboration with Sparfunk (from Moving Fusion / Ram Records). They also recently remixed two tracks for Julian Marley which are forthcoming on W10. There is also the new ‘Spread Your Wings’ EP by coming soon. Look out for this and more as the year moves forward.
